CREATING ARTWORK FOR BUTTONS

Problems with Fonts

When sending in artwork, please let us know the type of font you are using. Some artwork that we receive come with fonts that we don’t have. When this happens problems can arise. If we don’t have the exact font we won't be able to print your design and have it look the way you intended it to look. Remember there are many variations of common fonts and there’s a good chance those variations will not work.

There are ways around this problem. If you are creating your artwork in CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator, please convert the fonts to what are known as paths / outlines before sending your file. (To convert to paths / outlines simply select all the type in the design and choose the "convert to paths / outlines" option under the type menu).

You can also avoid font problems by using any of the following file formats (.psd, .jpg, .bmp, or .tif). By using one of these file formats, we won't have a problem with the fonts.

If your button is going to be a relatively simple design, it would probably be easier to have our graphic designers create your artwork.

If you are going to use a CorelDraw file - please save as version 12 or lower; convert all fonts to paths / outlines.

If you are using photo’s, logo’s, or clip-art you will need to upload the file as a high resolution .jpg or .psd file, at least 300 dpi or higher. 300 dpi or higher will yield much better results.

If you need to send artwork on disc, we can work with the following: 3-1/2" floppy, zip disk or a CD. But if at all possible, please upload your artwork to our website.

Files We Accept:

All PC Compatible - .eps, .tif, .jpg, .ai, .psd, .pdf, .pub, .doc, .zip, .sit

Properly sizing your artwork for buttons:

You will need to properly size your artwork for the best result. Please look at the table below and find the button size you wish to have made.

Underneath each button size you will see three dimensions... image area, background color, and cut line. Below you will find a description of what these terms mean.

Image Area - sometimes called the "live area" or “face area”, this is the area in which text and graphics need to be contained. All art and copy should stay within this space. Doing so will keep your text and graphic images from getting too close to the edge of your button and possibly going over the side.

Background Color – sometimes called a “bleed area”. This is the exact size your artwork needs to be when submitted. It includes the image area of the button plus the extra bleed area that we need to wrap around the edge and to the back of the button. This figure is important, so please make certain your background or background color, assuming you have one, is the exact size called for, for your particular button size.

Cut Line – The cut line is used to accurately cut your artwork. It helps us to make certain that your artwork is properly centered on your button. The cut line should be a 1 point black line.

**By using the table above for your artwork image it will ensure that you have sized the cut line according to our directions, you should see a white gap between the cut line and the background/bleed line. This is as it should be. Our button presses need this white gap to function properly during the cutting of your image process.
